SBC currently supports four projects:

Project 1:
Purchase mobile scanning devices

Purpose :Purchase two mobile scanning devices
for prenatal care Diouloulou ,Kafountine and the surrounding villages.
Reason : At the moment there is only one left
(mobiel) scanapparaat (mobile) scanning device available in Kafontine. This one has problems with the battery, but still works somewhat. In Diouloulou is currently completely no working scan available anymore.

Explanation

One mobile scanning device per location is of
of great importance because it also means that the women in the
remote villages and on the islands can be explored.
On average there is once every two months
ea (medical) team on the road by boat
and visit the remote locations in the delta,
to provide prenatal care there as well.

Project 2:
Financial contribution to training and education of midwives

Goal : There are enough midwives in Diouloulou
and Kafountine to cope with the increased workload
and who use the scanning equipment correctly.
Reason : Both in the capital Dakar and in Ziguinchor
Are there training options (a 3-year course).
But the majority of training costs are not
financed by the Senegalese government.
The candidates must therefore try to find
funding themselves. Often the study costs and cost of
living prove to be too large an obstacle
for most girls and women in the region.
Their family must be able to support them and
that has caused additional economic problems,
this path is currently virtually impossible.

In addition, not all working midwives appear to be the subject/training in the ultrasound
as part of their training.
The ultrasound training takes 3 to 6 months and can be
followed in both Dakar and Ziguinchor.

Project 3:
Contribution to teaching and information material related to health education

Goal: Reach more young people with health education
by contemporary educaitonal materials
materials and informational resources.
Reason : The population of the villages exists
largely young people. The best contribution
to monitor the overall health situation
improvement is preventive information
to this target group.

Explanation : The most important health education in schools is mainly about general hygiene, AIDS/HIV, venereal diseases, birth control. However, the educational materials and resources are outdated. There are no computers,
appealing videos or games that 'keep them on their toes'. Financing is the problem.

Project 4:
Contribution to improving housing for midwives Kafountine

Goal

The midwives lack a no comfortable and
attractive living space.

ReasonThe midwives are Kafountine
permanently stationed (7 days a week, day/night mandatory)
on the hospital grounds of the maternity hospital.
They are obliged to use a concrete space of
approx. 2 by 3 meters, without windows or other facilities.
They sleep on a mattresses on the concrete floor and have
no privacy whatsoever. The midwives perform
heavy work and working conditions
are severly strenuous.
